Mistakes while making a Cooking Video

Attempting to create a cooking video while showcasing Pampered Chef products and one of their
Baked Mac and Cheese with Shrimp
recipes was not as easy as I had expected. I could have just gone live on Facebook but I wanted to create something different, a little more like the cooking videos you see all over social media.

Mistake number one, was making a recipe for the first time while also trying to create a video. The recipe turned out okay but adding in a 2 month old baby did make things interesting. He had woken up from his last nap late so he was more awake in the evening, so the timing of the night was a bit off.

Mistake number two was the biggest mistake. I took a picture of all the ingredients, but then I did not prep them. If my husband was not so amazing dinner probably would not have gotten done. There was cheese to shred, parsley to chop, things to measure out. None of it was done, Anne Burrell of Worst Cooks in America always pushes them to finish their mise en place. It is a is a French culinary phrase which means "putting in place" or "everything in its place." I failed at this miserably that night.

Mistake number three was holding my phone, it's currently the highest megapixel camera I have so it is what I used. But holding a phone while filming on time lapse makes for shaky video. I am going to fix this issue with a tripod attachment and another phone stand for filming. It was a much cheaper option than a new camera at this time, and will also allow me to do Facebook live videos when I choose too.

So next time I make a video I will have the tools to create a better video, editing it out was easy using a free Adobe app. I think the video turned out okay, I showcased the Rockcrok and the fact that it can go from stove top, to the oven and then broiler. Best part is it's dishwasher safe so while we created a huge mess cleanup was easy. I think the food looked appetizing considering it was taken without fancy lighting. It was a learning experience that's for sure.
